The 15 History and Motivational Podcasts I’m Hooked on Right Now.

Doesn’t it feel like every day there’s a new exciting history or motivational podcast to binge listen? Podcasts are fast becoming a major feature in my life. Need to tidy the kitchen. Stick on a Talking Tudors. Feeling a bit ‘meh’. It’s a giggle with You’re Dead to Me. Stuck in a mental rut. Well, I need 11 minutes of  The Mindset Mentor telling me life isn’t a dress rehearsal and to get off my bum.    

Below are the 15 history and motivational podcasts I’m hooked on right now. I’ve included motivational ones because history blogging, and building a blog into a business is not just tips and tactics. It’s also about building me and you with the mindset skills to thrive. I hope you enjoy my recommendations. Let me know your favourites.

  • You're Dead To Me

    The history podcast for people who don’t like history… and those who do. Greg Jenner brings together the best names in comedy and history to learn and laugh about the past.

  • True Spies

    Hosted by wonderful British actress Hayley Atwell, each episode is a gritty piecing together of first-person accounts and tradecraft from the biggest stories of spies and those trying to catch them like Soviet double-agents and Mexican druglords. Atwell regularly asks "what would YOU do?"

  • Dan Snow's History Hit

    A good all-rounder from one of the giants right now. Great guests from historians to authors to politicians. Topical chat, 'how and why history' episodes plus deep dives like 'Myths of the Titanic' or 'Forgotten Women of the Civil Rights Movements."

  • Conspiracy Theories

    The truth is rarely the best story. And when it’s not the only story, the truth deserves another look. They tell the complicated stories behind the world’s most controversial events and possible cover-ups. Conspiracy? Maybe. Coincidence? Maybe. Complicated? Absolutely.

  • Russian Rulers

    I visited Russia last year which reignited my passion for this topic. With over 230 episodes on Russian rulers and Russian history, there's plenty to get into.

  • Talking Tudors

    A podcast started because she loves to talk about the Tudors, Natalie shares her passion for all thing Tudor through authentic and largely unscripted conversations with authors, historians and other experts. You'll gain new insights into the period and deepen your understanding of the era.

  • Hashtag History

    Described as the ultimate podcast for history nerds and haters alike, my first listen was the assassination of RFK, and after that I was hooked. Controversy, conspiracy and corruption. Love it.

  • Accessible Art History

    Art is something I need an enthusiastic expert to walk me through or I get lost, quick. Analisa, is that person. I enjoy each episode as she does a wonderful, effortless job of making art history accessible.

  • Desert Island Discs

    Well who hasn't been on this show! The BBC Radio Four show, broadcasting since 1942 is also a podcast. Each show gives a candid, often inspirational. insight into the lives of historic people like Viscount Montgomery, Princess Margaret, Lady Mosley and historians such as Sir Antony Beevor told through eight tracks.

  • The Mindset Mentor

    Rob Dial in near daily 15-20 minute podcasts gives you a no-nonsense talking to. He covers motivation, coping with anxiety, expectations and stress. How to develop the right work ethic and build positivity from the inside out and outside in.
