My name is Michael Rausch and I have a lifelong fascination for all aspects of history, particularly the history and development of submarines. I grew up near the water.
I can remember seeing movies with submarines from an early age and I’m sure many of us have the same.
Who does not remember Das Boot or The hunt for the red October? It sparked an interest in me about a relatively unknown world – The world of underwater warfare.
I’m also sure many of you have this spark. The thrill, the excitement of the chase, finding a convoy and applying the wolfpack (convoy attack tactic) to attack and fire torpedoes.
The fear could be felt when it comes to know that U boats were not the predators but they were being chased, with a dead silent crew waiting in anticipation, to hear the explosion all around them.
were they set on the right depth or will they live to fight another day?
