I love that it's called the tablecloth when the cl I love that it's called the tablecloth when the cloud hugs Table Mountain like this... Bit of a throwback today. This is me sailing toward Robben Island, Cape Town exactly eight years ago. You can see the water starting to get a bit choppy here. The trip was cut short due to bad weather so I looked a bit greener on the way back.... (nobody wants to see that) Robben Island is a must-see for modern history fans. After studying South African politics, standing outside Nelson Mandela's cell was one of those times when I knew I was standing somewhere historic but didn't really know what to do with myself. Do you ever get like that? And, wow Cape Town, what a truly vibrant and brilliant city.

I don't know what I expected an Icelandic church t I don't know what I expected an Icelandic church to look like, but I definitely wasn't expecting this. The super impressive and unusual church - Hallgrímskirkja - dominates the skyline as you approach Reykjavik. And, it's got even more of a wow factor when you see it up close. At 74.5 metres (244 ft) tall, it is the largest church in Iceland and among the tallest structures in the country. The spire is curved and it looks like wings along the side.

As I'm used to crumbling English churches from hundreds of years ago, I was surprised to discover it was completed in 1986. That's younger than me! The church is named after the Icelandic poet and cleric Hallgrímur Pétursson (1614–1674)

Although slightly cheating as it's a Catherdral - Notre Dame still remains a clear favourite of mine. It's still so 💔 what happened there. What's your favourite church (or cheeky Cathedral : )?

I find note-taking fun, and rewarding yet torturou I find note-taking fun, and rewarding yet torturous at the same time. I truly envy bloggers who can just dive right into sources and research and produce a coherent, structured masterpiece at the end. I, sadly, am not one of those people. Diving right in means; tangents, hours scrolling for images I don't need, general reading (which I don't have time for), and major shiny object syndrome which will derail me every time from the task at hand.

But, in my advancing years, I have learned a few ways to curb the chaos to enjoy the glorious subject that is history whilst at the same time being productive, and that's what I share with you in my latest post.

If you've got any great tips that will prevent me, and any fellow blogging sufferers, from relapsing into note-taking madness then I would love to hear them.
